Kinship of Cumberland and Turtle Lake

Connell, Jim headshotExecutive Director, Jim Connell

I grew up in Winona, Minnesota and moved to Northwest Wisconsin in 1994. I am a retired teacher/school administrator. I was a principal at Turtle Lake for 15 years and was a district administrator at Birchwood and most recently Shell Lake. I retired from Shell Lake in 2015. I currently work a few part time jobs to keep me busy. I enjoy outdoor activities, spending time on our pontoon and woodworking. I have been happily married to my wife Becky for 34 years and we have two adult children, along with a golden retriever and family cat. We love living in Cumberland as it is a very inviting community, has a small town feel, yet has many shopping and restaurant options. I am looking forward to getting involved with Kinship, as it benefits youth as well as adults that are part of the program.

Meet Our Board of Directors

Thank you Board Members for volunteering to serve your community!

Board President, Thomas McCarthy

My wife and I grew up in Cumberland, left for college, and moved back to Cumberland the first chance we got. I thoroughly enjoyed growing up here and wanted my kids to have the same experience. I have been on the board with Kinship since 2016 and have spent the last few years as President of the organization. For work, I am a lender at a local bank. In my free time I enjoy hunting, fishing, and spending time with my wife and three children.

Kala Board of Directors Board Treasurer, Kala Green

Hello!  My name is Kala Green and I am serving as Treasurer for Kinship as of January 2023.  I am excited to be able to volunteer my time to such a wonderful group.  My family moved to Cumberland the summer of 2011 when my husband Colin was hired as the Cumberland Middle School principal.  I have been a mortgage lender with Cumberland Federal Bank since the fall of 2011.  We raised three children in this wonder town of Cumberland (Carley, Roy & Lauren) but are now empty-nesters.  In my free time I enjoy traveling, hiking, boating, quilting and spending time with family and the grand-pups.

jamie Board Secretary, Jamie Wickstrom

Hello, my name is Jamie Wickstrom and I’ve been part of the Kinship board for a number of years. My family consists of my husband Brian and our two boys, Landon and Tucker plus our furry family members-Daisie, Lulu, Millie and Fluffy.  I have been a registered nurse for 17 years now, working at Cumberland Healthcare in the surgery department.  When I’m not at work, you can find me watching my boys’ sporting events, shopping, traveling, reading and scrapbooking.  We also enjoy camping when time allows.

Become a Board Member Board Member, YOUR NAME COULD BE HERE!

Kinship of Cumberland and Turtle Lake is in need of Board Members! Help make a difference in our community by committing an hour or so a month to help Kinship continue to move forward and provide youth mentoring services! We need you!

Board Member, Sarah Fox

I joined the Kinship Board of Directors in 2021 and I’m happy to be a part of such a great program to support the youth in our community. My husband Shelby and I live on a crop farm outside of Cumberland with our kids, dogs, and chickens. I am the marketing director at Real Estate Solutions in Rice Lake and also substitute teacher in the Cumberland School District. Being involved in our community in positive ways is important to me- “Be the change you want to see in the world.” I volunteer to teach Faith Formation at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, sit on the board of directors for the Northwoods Figure Skating Club and coached soccer for seven years. When I’m not busy with community and kid activities, I enjoy travelling, fishing, helping on our farm, everything outdoors, reading and being with my family.

Lindy Board Member, Lindy Anderson

My name is Lindy Anderson. My husband’s name is Josh, and we have two children Owen and Maci. In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors hiking, fishing, snowshoeing, and kayaking.
I am honored to be a part of an organization whose main focus is to improve the quality of life of the youth in our community. I love that Kinship helps create lifelong bonds and friendships, not only for the children involved but also for its mentors.
