|Board President, Thomas McCarthy
My wife and I grew up in Cumberland, left for college, and moved back to Cumberland the first chance we got. I thoroughly enjoyed growing up here and wanted my kids to have the same experience. I have been on the board with Kinship since 2016 and have spent the last few years as President of the organization. For work, I am a lender at a local bank. In my free time I enjoy hunting, fishing, and spending time with my wife and three children.
|Board Vice President, Phil Flottom
My name is Phil Flottum and I was born and raised in Cumberland and graduated from Cumberland in 1976. I continued my studies at the University in River Falls, WI and earned a degree in teaching. After graduation I moved and became a department store manager at Carson Pirie Scott in Minneapolis, Minnesota until finally moving back to Cumberland and taking a teaching position in Barron. I taught in Barron for two years and then in Cumberland for the remainder of my career. I retired from the Cumberland School District in 2014. Cumberland is a great town and I volunteer in many capacities to benefit our community. I have been on the board of Kinship for 16+ years and have appreciated my time volunteering this great program.

We have pugs and absolutely love them! I work at the Cumberland Chamber of Commerce and have been there for a year! Previously, since 2003 I was a CAN in various departments from a Nursing Home, to Oncology to a regular medical floor! I am also currently on the Barron County 4-H Dog Program Board of Directors. In my spare time I like to go for walks, read and I love to cook (but not bake)! My oldest son is also in Marching Band, so I love to go to the parades and field show competitions Cumberland is in!

I joined the Kinship Board of Directors in 2021 and I’m excited to be a part of such an awesome program to support the youth in our community. My husband Shelby and I live on a crop farm outside of Cumberland with our kids- Ashton, Kiera and Owen, our two dogs- Lucy and Indy, and our six chickens. I am self employed as a marketing director at Real Estate Solutions, I’m a substitute teacher in the Cumberland School District, teach Faith Formation at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, sit on the board of directors for the Northwoods Figure Skating Club and coached soccer for seven years. When I’m not busy with community and kid activities, I enjoy travelling, fishing, helping on our farm, everything outdoors, reading and being with my family.
